There are so many daily planners available and I think that each person has to find the format that works for them. Depending on your strengths and personality, certain planners may work better than others. But, regardless of what daily planner you choose, here are some key components that I think should be in your planner.
#1 Goal Setting and Priorities – In order to know what you should be focusing on each day, it’s important to take a step back and evaluate your overall goals and priorities. Our bigger goals should be driving our daily decisions. So, I think it’s great to have a planner that asks you to evaluate your goals and priorities so that they can drive your daily decisions.
#2 Daily Schedule by the Hour or Half Hour – So many of us have a list running in our head of all of the things we need to do. But, if we aren’t actually figuring out *when* we will be getting those tasks done, then a lot of times they don’t happen. I have found that it’s really important to have a way to plan out your day hour by hour so that you know when you are doing what. When I take 5 minutes in the morning to do this, I find I’m always more productive and more satisfied at the end of the day.
#3 Task List – Rather than trying to keep everything in your head for what you need to do, write it down. This will help you get it all on paper and help you prioritize it and fit it into your schedule. I find that this helps people have more clarity and focus.
If you do not have a daily planner, I hope this helps you think about some key components you want to look for!
